Chemical Inventories

Maintaining laboratory safety and regulatory compliance requires the tracking and management of hazardous materials stored onsite. Ancon staff can assist by performing a physical inventory of the chemicals present, followed by a complete chemical classification report.

Recycling and Diversion

Apart from conventional waste treatment methods, Ancon advocates for an extensive network of recycling alternatives. Every program is uniquely tailored. We continuously monitor the dynamic environmental scene to provide the latest technologies in aid of our clients’ sustainability aspirations.

Following the zero-waste hierarchy, Ancon incorporates various re-use, recycling, and recovery technologies into our service offerings.

Reuse

We start by recognizing the inherent value in your waste and materials, exploring opportunities for re-use.

Beneficial reuse of hazardous waste involves transforming these materials into useful products or resources, minimizing their environmental impact. This process aims to repurpose hazardous waste in a safe and eco-friendly manner, reducing waste volume, conserving resources, and often providing economic benefits.

Recycle

  • Chemical Placement Services
    • Ancon’s Chemical Placement Service provides an opportunity to relocate your surplus chemicals within our vendor network. Each placement is customized to suit the material and quantity involved, ensuring a tailored solution in each case.
  • Plastics
    • Biomedical researchers dedicate themselves daily to enhancing global health. Yet, in the course of their work, modern labs heavily rely on and dispose of substantial quantities of single-use plastics.
    • Ancon collaborates with our network of recycling partners to address these plastic materials, providing a solution tailored to your facility’s specific needs. Options may include:
      • Closed-Loop
      • Circular
      • Advanced Recycling
  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)
    • Most personal protective equipment (PPE) is crafted from non-biodegradable, single-use plastic. Experts state approximately 75% of this PPE finds its way into either landfills or oceans Ancon partners with various firms to recycle these products into new usable materials, such as plastic pallets, storage containers, and various consumer goods. Currently, we provide solutions for the following PPE types:
      • Mixed nitrile glove recycling
      • Mixed PPE (gloves, goggles, face masks)
      • Tyvek recycling

Recover

  • What is the difference between waste recovery and waste disposal?
    • Waste recovery involves using waste to extract value, such as energy, materials, or resources. The primary aim of recovery is to reclaim useful elements from waste, reducing its environmental impact and preserving resources. Waste disposal, on the other hand, refers to the final removal or elimination of waste materials that do not undergo recovery processes. This can include methods like landfilling or incineration without energy recovery, where the primary objective is to discard waste rather than extract value from it.
  • Ancon employs a range of recovery techniques to enhance our clients’ waste diversion initiatives:
    • Distillation
      • Solvent distillation is a process that involves separating and purifying solvents from contaminants or impurities for reuse. This process helps industries recover and reuse solvents, contributing to cost savings, reducing environmental impact, and promoting sustainable practices by minimizing the generation of hazardous waste.
    • Fuel blending
      • Fuel blending harnesses the thermal energy from non-recyclable waste via combustion, thereby producing usable energy for industrial operations, and lessening our reliance on non-renewable resources, such as fossil fuels.
    • Alternative fuel
      • Non-hazardous or non-RCRA wastes undergo blending and shredding to create an engineered fuel. This specialized fuel is then utilized by cement kilns to reduce reliance on natural resources such as coal and natural gas. Materials accepted for this purpose encompass non-halogenated plastics, expired products, and general plant trash or debris.
    • Waste to Energy
      • The waste-to-energy process involves converting non-recyclable waste into usable energy through various methods like incineration, gasification, or anaerobic digestion. Waste materials are treated to extract energy, reducing their volume, and producing electricity, heat, or fuel in a controlled manner. This process helps manage waste while generating sustainable energy.

Biological and Medical Waste

  • Often, what facilities label as Regulated Medical Waste (RMW) tends to be overclassified. Ancon collaborates with your Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) team to distinguish between materials that require RMW management and those that qualify as non-hazardous waste. This non-hazardous waste can then be disposed of as regular trash or directed toward our diversion technologies.
  • We provide disposal solutions for the following RMW types
    • Red bag
    • Sharps
    • Pathological/Animal
    • Pharmaceutical
    • APHIS/USDA Wastes
  • Ancon provides clients various treatment technologies for Regulated Medical Waste:
    • Autoclave
    • Pyrolysis
    • Shredding
    • Waste to Energy

Non-Hazardous Waste

  • While certain waste streams might not fall under state or federal regulations, some facilities opt to redirect these materials into alternative disposal technologies. This choice helps diminish their impact on local landfills.
  • Ancon utilizes diverse treatment technologies to aid our clients in achieving their diversion objectives, including, but not limited to:
    • Alternative Fuel
    • Waste to Energy
    • Plastics Recycling
    • Anaerobic Digestion

Universal and Electronic Waste

  • Universal waste refers to specific categories of hazardous waste commonly generated by various industries and subject to relaxed regulations for collection, recycling, and disposal.
  • Ancon provides recycling of the following Universal Waste types:
    • Batteries
    • Lamps
    • Electronic Devices, including Asset Management
    • Cathode Ray Tubes (CRTs)
    • CRT Glass
    • Mercury Wastes
    • Non-Empty Aerosol Cans
    • Photovoltaic (PV) Modules

Safeguarding your brand and demonstrating environmental responsibility can prove a challenge in today’s market. Certified destruction provides for responsible disposal of various products, ensuring they do not re-enter the market or pose any risks. Whether it is expired or unsellable goods, Ancon’s certified destruction services offer peace of mind by providing the following:

  • Brand protection
  • Compliance
  • Liability mitigation
  • Security

Ancon provides comprehensive solutions for transportation, always with safety and compliance as a top priority. A fleet of equipment for regulated waste transportation is a critical component of responsible waste management, as it ensures hazardous materials are transported safely, securely, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. This minimizes the risk of environmental harm. Our fleets of specialized transportation equipment include:

  • Tractor/Trailer
  • Box Trucks and Vans
  • Roll-off Trucks
  • Tanker Trucks
  • Vacuum Trucks
  • Flatbed Trucks
